Bill Gates spends brief summer holiday in Palawan

Puerto Princesa City - American business magnate and one of the world's richest man Bill Gates together with his family, was reportedly visited the island of Palawan for a brief vacation in the high-end resort of Amanpulo and to have a look to an island in El Nido that he wanted to invest in.

The co-founder of Microsoft was with his wife Melinda Gates and two of their children. They arrived in the early morning of April 6 via a Global Express private plane in the island paradise of Palawan and spent three days there.

According to the people who witnessed the Gates' arrival at the Puerto Princesa City Airport (PPCA),  as soon as the Gates family arrived, they immediately boarded a privately-hired helicopter, assisted by retired police superintendent Edgar Iglasia, who was tasked to ensure their security and safety while visiting.

The chopper then flew to Amanpulo resort, a beautiful island that is part of the Quiniluban Group of Cuyo islands and islets, north of the province.
Amanpulo resort is a popular getaway of the rich and famous like Gates himself, as well as husband and wife Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to name a few.
The Philippine News Agency was also told that Bill Gates visited the touristy town of El Nido to check the island, where he plans to invest with Filipino partners. No name of an island was mentioned.
The Microsoft magnate’s family reportedly flew Wednesday back to Metro Manila. According to an aircraft security procedure document obtained by the news agency, no one was allowed to come near the Global Express plane except the crew and the international security team.

Tennis Star Maria Sharapova Visits Palawan

After the inclusion of the Underground River in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Palawan Island's popularity is showing no signs of slowing down. Just recently, Palawan was voted the best island of Conde Nast Traveler, an international travel magazine.


That said, not only local tourists are amazed at the beauty of the country's last frontier. Even Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova enjoyed the beaches of Palawan weeks before her scheduled games at the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL).

During ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo's interview with Sharapova, the star made mention as to how she learned about Palawan. According to her, the internet helped her in knowing more about the island as well as her interactions with friends online. 

"It's a trip I wanted to take for many years. So I kind of went around these islands with my friends. It was really fun," she said.

She added that the Filipinos’ hospitality made the trip even more fulfilling.

“The people were so generous, it made the trip so great."


Sharapova will be joining other tennis superstar in Manila for the inaugural IPTL which begins on Friday.
