Tennis Star Maria Sharapova Visits Palawan

After the inclusion of the Underground River in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Palawan Island's popularity is showing no signs of slowing down. Just recently, Palawan was voted the best island of Conde Nast Traveler, an international travel magazine.

That said, not only local tourists are amazed at the beauty of the country's last frontier. Even Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova enjoyed the beaches of Palawan weeks before her scheduled games at the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL).

During ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo's interview with Sharapova, the star made mention as to how she learned about Palawan. According to her, the internet helped her in knowing more about the island as well as her interactions with friends online.

"It's a trip I wanted to take for many years. So I kind of went around these islands with my friends. It was really fun," she said.

She added that the Filipinos’ hospitality made the trip even more fulfilling.

“The people were so generous, it made the trip so great."

Sharapova will be joining other tennis superstar in Manila for the inaugural IPTL which begins on Friday.
