Words are powerful that can make or break someone's life. And that's exactly what happened to a man working at a Texas Bar who joked about domestic violence and had the posted sign placed outside of the bar for everyone to see.
The sign read, "I like my beer like I like my violence: domestic."
But one local resident of Austin, Texas, Seetha Kulandaisamy, took a photo of the sign and posted it on her Facebook and Instagram accounts and grabbed national attention.
"I walked by the sign on Friday night, and my first response was just anger," Kulandaisamy said. "I currently am a volunteer at the women's shelter in Austin, so my sensitivity is extra high, but I think my reaction would have been the same regardless. Not only was it offensive, but it was also just bad humor."
The following morning, the bar immediately removed the sign and fired the employee who posted the sign.
"Minibar doesn't condone that sign," owner Alex Elmiger said. "I give my utmost apology and assure it won't happen again. As soon as it was brought to my attention, I wanted to do something to rectify the situation."
For every domestic beer sold, $1 will go to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. A plan by the Minibar in recognition of domestic violence for the month of October.
