Chief Supt. Elmer Soria of Philippine National Police Region 8 commander has been relieved from his position after giving an estimation to the media that super typhoon Yolanda could have taken the lives of at least 10,000 people.
PNP released a statement saying that Sorai is experiencing "acute stress reaction" and he may need to undergo stress debriefing.
"We all know that Chief Supt. Elmer Soria has been through a lot for the past days and may be experiencing what you call 'acute stress reaction.' As such, it was deemed by higher headquarters that he might need to go through a stress debriefing,” the statement read.

Soria was replaced by Chief Supt. Henry Losanes as the new Regional Director.
“A new Regional Director is in place, Chief Supt. Henry Losanes,” the statement added.
It can be recalled that some local and international medias reported during their coverage of the typhoon aftermath that at least 10,000 people perished. But according to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) latest count, 3,621 lost their lives, with most coming from Leyte.
